A Wright & Son Sheffield

Shop and buy the A. Wright & Son, traditional Sheffield pocket knife. Established since 1947, A. Wright folding pocket knives are hand made in Sheffield, England with C70 carbon steel blades. All models of A. Wright folding knives are fitted with very strong back springs, which makes these knives ideal to buy for work use. The knife manufacturing process, including blanking out the blades and springs, hardening and tempering, assembly, grinding and glazing and final polishing is all done in-house. Note: carbon steel knives need to be cleaned and oiled after use to prevent corrosion. Surface corrosion can be removed with fine sandpaper.

A. Wright & Son, Sheffield, folding pocket knives are hand made in Sheffield, England with a high standard of quality control at each step of the process. When choosing a work knife, one of the main considerations is the ability to maintain a sharp cutting edge after lengthy use. The C70 carbon steel blades of A. Wright pocket knives are hardened to high specification. The only drawback with a hard blade steel such as this, is the slight difficulty when it comes to re-sharpening the blade. In this case, sharpening the blade is made even harder by the curved shape of the edge. A different angle is required when applying the blade to the sharpening tool, for the belly of the blade and the tip of the blade. Lambfoot blades, which have a straight cutting edge are much easier to sharpen, with single strokes along the sharpening tool at the same angle.
